Services for Verda Lee King, 89, of Longview will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksboro, with burial following in the Graceland Cemetery in Jermyn, Texas. There will be a visitation prior to the service at Coker Funeral Home, 1-2 pm.
Verda died on Friday, August 16, 2013, in Longview. She was born in Jermyn, on March 1, 1924, the daughter of James Albert and Romie Loren Crum.
She married Lewis King, from Jermyn, on June 9, 1945. Lewis was a pilot in World War II and a farmer/rancher in Palo Pinto, Jack and Young counties.
Verda was smart, quick witted, very perceptive and a devoted Christian mother. She was also a graduate of Weatherford Junior College and worked as a secretary, bookkeeper and English teacher. he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longview, Texas.
Survivors include: her daughter, Dixie Houston, of Franklin, Tennessee; son, Charles King, of Anchor Point, Alaska; son, Kris King, of Longview, Texas; three sisters, Wanda Boyd, of Millsap, Texas, Barbara “Bobby” Newton, of Petrolia, Texas, Gwen Fitzgerald, of Jacksboro, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
