— Funeral services for Mr. Joseph “Don” Walker, 79, of Nacogdoches, Texas, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Allen Reed officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Walker was born on Dec. 10, 1933, in Salesville, Texas, to the late Joseph William Walker and Virginia Hess Walker. He passed away on July 28, 2013, in Nacogdoches.
Don lived in Salesville until the age of 11. He and his family moved to Mineral Wells where he graduated from Mineral Wells High School. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business at the University of North Texas in 1957. Don began working for Amour Packing Co. while still in college. Then he joined Moore Business Forms in 1959, where he served in management for over 35 years.
After his retirement, he worked seasonally for Accounting Services in Cushing, Texas, through April 2013.
He served his country in the National Guard and was a past member of the Optimist Club in Denton. There, he also coached Little League Football. He was a member of the Nacogdoches Jaycees and the United Way. Don was active in his church, teaching a Jr. High Boys Sunday School class. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches. He enjoyed his membership with the Nacogdoches Rotary Club.
Don liked to work on the computer and watch the Dallas Cowboys play football. He was known to also attend SFA football games. He cherished his family and adored his grandchildren. Don was content with his life. He was loving, humble, happy and grateful for what God had given him. He was loved dearly by his family and friends. He was the true Christian leader of his family, devoted to his savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed being a member of First Baptist Church and the Kerr Sunday School Class.
Don never met a stranger. He would always go out of his way to help those in need.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marcie Wilks Walker, of Nacogdoches; his son, Brad Walker, and wife, Carol, of Emory, Texas; his daughter, Angela Fuchs, and husband, Neil, of Kingwood, Texas; two sisters, Mary Kathryn White of Lancaster, and Eugenia Gruben and husband, Leon, of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Andrew and Olivia Fuchs of Kingwood and Stephen Walker of Emory, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and good friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Goodroe, Doug Boren, Ray Ashley, Andy Wilks, Andrew Fuchs and Stephen Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Bogan, Leon Dorsey, Jerry Simmons and the members of the Kerr Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home.
