Mary Earl Compton

Mary Earl Compton was born on June 29, 1930. Times were hard then, but Ira and Josie Allison Compton were filled with joy to welcome an only daughter to join a brother, Billie Joe, and later on another brother, James Richard.

Growing up in Lipan, she learned the value, discipline, and the love of a small, close-knit community and the life of a busy farm girl. After graduation, Mary attended and graduated from Brandt College, earning her degree as an executive secretary and later was accepted as the secretary to the machinist union in Ft.. Worth, working at Aro-Dynamics as the head secretary. She took odd jobs to pay for her school, and was even a hand model and magician's assistant.

She moved to Mineral Wells in 1959, and was co-owner of Cole's House of flowers for 30 years. She was active in the community and belonged to The Zonta Club, The Chamber of Commerce, The Ladies Club, The West Texas New Mexico Florist Association, and the Holiday Hills Country Club.

After retiring, Mary kept busy with neighbors and friends at the Crazy Hotel and found comfort and joy being with her family, Paul Allison Cole and wife Aloise of Waco, and Pamela Cole Granillo and dear friend Barbara Grapes, both of Mineral Wells.

She was especially proud of her grandchilden, Mary Allison Cole, Joseph Cole, Heather Lesseter of Kentucky, and great grandson, Cole Ashton Pintaone of Kentucky.

Her off the wall sense of humor, her kindness, and her bluebonnet eyes will be missed by all.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Rev. Bobby Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Condolences may be left at www.bcbfuneralhome.com.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
