Charles “Lindy” Spurgeon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away Oct. 15, 2013. He was born March 8, 1928, in Palo Pinto County, the son of Walter E. and Grace Caroline Graves Spurgeon.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the South Side Lions Club in Fort Worth, and served as its president from 1983 to 1984. He loved his “little country church” – Rock Creek Road Baptist, and was a member there for the last 30 years.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Rock Creek Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Spurgeon. He has three children: Linda Spurgeon Payne, and husband, Jonathan: Charles Max Spurgeon and wife, Sue; Theresa Spurgeon Hawkins and husband, Mike; also six grandchildren: Jeremi Beam, and husband, Josh; James Elder and wife, Charlie; Joshua Payne; Charles H. Elder; Eric Spurgeon and wife, Amber; and Jessica Spurgeon; five great-grandchildren, Skye, Jordan, Anthony, Ellie Jane and Ashleigh; a very dear niece, Clareece Courtney; and many cousins and other family.
