Russell "Russ" Oran Schraeder

Russ Oran Schraeder, 77, died Sunday, June 10, 2012.

Russ believed memorials were what each of us had in our hearts and asked no service be given.  He asked for each of us to remember him as he was.

He was born April 13, 1935, in Colorado County, Texas, to Russell Schraeder and Grace Furguson. Russ made a grand entrance wherever he went in his cowboy boots and cowboy hat with the friendliest greetings ever. If you ever met him you would remember him and be the better for it.

Russ had a fantastic ability to put a smile on your face and would always see through the bad times with a positive outlook and belief that everything would turn out all right if you had a positive attitude. Russ enjoyed his family, friends, his truck driving career, drinking coffee, reading Louis L'Amour books and belting out his famous "Russisms" whenever he got the chance. Some of the more frequently used were "we're heading out like a herd of turtles" and "look out boys we're coming through sideways!"

He will be missed by his family, friends and many acquaintances at truck stops, coffee shops, barber shops, cafés and other such places across the country.

Russ is survived by his wife, Wilma Schraeder, of Mineral Wells; sons, Jason Schraeder and wife, Virginia, of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Donnie Schraeder, of Fort Worth, and Randy Schraeder, of Mason, Texas; daughters, Sue Sears, of Mason, and Jayme Foreman and husband, David, of Mineral Wells; granddaughters, Russellana “Rusty” Braim of Gassville, Ark., Felicia Fountain, of Franklin, Ark., and Lacey Lytle, of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandsons, Bubba Cargal, of Conway Ark., Tommy Schraeder, of Menomonee, Wis., and Daniel Harney, of Kingsland, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Judy Barnett and husband, Eddie, of Mineral Wells; stepsons, Jerry and Jimmy Funderburg, of Mineral Wells; sisters, Ronelda Wendler and Myrle McDuffie, of Marble Falls, Texas, and Flo Winn, of Page, Ariz.; and numerous nephews and nieces who knew him as "Uncle Sonny."

Russ was preceded in death by daughter Rose Cargal and brother Roland Schraeder.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
