— ATHENS, Ala. – Amanda Irene Ware, 91, passed away May 21, 2014, in an Athens, Ala., nursing home.
Service is 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation precedes the service beginning at 2 p.m.
She was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Lipan, the daughter of Joseph Samuel and Minerva Estella Light Burns. She married Emmett Lee Ware in San Antonio. He preceded her in death in 1967. She lived in Athens, Ala., since 1995 and in Mineral Wells prior to that. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ. She worked for Southwestern Bell for 35 years until retiring in 1984. She worked in the gift shop at Palo Pinto General Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ware, of Athens, Ala.; grandchildren, Paige Crouch, of Athens, Ala., Rickiey McNiel, of Hawkins, Texas, Tracy Pettie, of Athens, Ala., Eric McNiel, of Decatur, Texas, and Chance McNiel of Van, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Michael Joe McNiel; five sisters; and one brother.
