Ora Goyne Russell, 87, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, in Mineral Wells.
Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. at the church, preceding the service.
She was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Ludars in West Texas. Ora was the eldest daughter of Maude and Henry Goyne, and she was one of nine children.
During World War II she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Russell, in Corpus Christi, where he was stationed with the Navy. Later, when Charles became a pastor, she assisted him as a wonderful, caring pastor’s wife. Ora and Charles enjoyed more than 70 years of marriage. Ora will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who always put the needs of others before her own. She was known for her great cooking skills, sharp wit and infectious laughter.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Russell; sister, Jo Young; son, Tommy and wife, Nancy; daughter, Donna and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Dawn Russell Hawkins, Chuck Russell, Russ Johnston and wife, Cynthia, and Paul Johnston; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Ora was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Henry Goyne; brothers Leonard, Harold, Clayton, and Willard; sisters , Nell Autry, Hazel Billingsly, and Sue Alexander.
