Lou White Walton

— MINERAL WELLS –– Lou White Walton, 79, was surrounded by family and friends when she went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014.

Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells or the National Alzheimer's Association in Chicago, Illinois.

Lou was born on Sept. 18, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Velvae White of Mineral Wells. She was a fourth-generation Palo Pinto County resident and descendent of the Howard-White Family who built the first general Store in downtown Mineral Wells. The location of that early day business is where the Poston Building housing the Palo Pinto County Government Annex stands today.

After graduation from Mineral Wells High School, she met and married the love of her life, R.J. “Skeet” Walton, who was the Executive Assistant General Manager of the historic Baker Hotel at the time. Blessed by the birth of three children, she and R.J. traveled across the United States as he assumed new management positions at various hotel properties over the years. She commented more than once that one of her secret joys was being released from having to keep up a home, since living in a hotel allowed those duties to be carried out by the hotel employees of the various hotels that R.J. managed. This allowed her to dedicate all her time to her children and husband, a precious privilege not all families were permitted. After retiring from hotel management, Lou and R.J. retired back to Mineral Wells, where he passed in 2011 after 60 years of loving marriage.

Lou loved her church and had great faith in the Lord. She reveled in her role as a housewife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Many knew her through her service and membership in First United Methodist Church, the 50 Year Club and Beta Sigma Phi International.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
