Janie Mayo Scarbrough of Hockley, Texas, departed this life on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21. At the time of her death she lived in a care facility in Brenham.
She grew up in Gordon.
Janie is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, DeLayne Myers Scarbrough, of Hockley; grandchildren, Andrea Scarbrough and husband, Chris, of Long Beach, Calif., Aimee Scarbrough and Michael, of Austin, Miles Scarbrough of Hockley, Kyle, Austin, Cheyenne Scarbrough of Tehachapi, Calif.; stepson Bart Scarbrough and Audrey of Hockley; brother, Chester Hugh Bud Mayo, of Gordon; sisters, Ann Finch of Duncanville, Sue Utley and Bob of Oklahoma City, Wanda Thornton and Troye of Gordon, Pam McQueary and Eddie of Strawn; and brother-in-law, Larry Scarbrough, and Evon of Houston; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Chester H. Mayo; mother, Hettie L. Mayo; sisters, Mozelle Terry, Lucille McGraw, Edna Agee; stepsons, Damon Scarbrough and Daniel Scarbrough.
A memorial celebration of her life was held on Tuesday at her home in Hockley.
Janie was a retired homemaker and a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Hockley, Forty Two Club and the Red Hats Society.
She brought joy wherever she was and is remembered by many of us for her loving heart and hands as she helped so many in her life here with us.
