Ivah Ruth Hinson Abraham, 83, passed to the Lord, Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Plano.
Funeral: Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Van Alstyne, Texas. Burial: Mount Marion Cemetery, Strawn.
Ivah was born in Alvarado, Texas, to Louie and Martin Hinson of Grandview. She was a graduate of Grandview High School and the St. Joseph Hospital nurse program. She married George Abraham in 1949 and resided in Fort Worth for many years before moving to Anna, Texas, in 1974, where she and Mr. Abraham owned and operated the Anna Thriftee Grocery Store until 1994.
Her family was the center and love of her life. Ivah was the heart and hands behind the start of many service, community and church organizations. She worked diligently and successfully to establish the Anna Library; she organized the first Anna Ladies Guild; started the Holy Family Grief Support Group.
She was honored as Anna Citizen of the Year in 1982 and was awarded the Anna Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award for 2010. She was the 2011 Anna Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. She was a great supporter of the Anna Volunteer Fire Department and in the mid-1990s worked successfully to help purchase their first much-needed fire truck. She served on the board of the Thurber Cemetery Association.
She and her husband were dedicated to the betterment of the Anna community their entire lives and Ivah was an advocate involving civic and homeowner matters. She loved to travel and explore new experiences.
Ivah was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George M. Abraham. She was the matriarch of her family which includes her daughters: Sheri Sims and husband Richard, Mary Breaud and husband Mike; grandchildren: Angela Justman and spouse Arno, Curt Breaud and spouse Sherry, Jason Fenimore and spouse Elizabeth, Richard Breaud, Adrianne Cole and spouse David, Christine Casten and spouse John, Lindsey Purdy and spouse Dyon and Trisha Sims. Great-grandchildren: Brett and Ryan Breaud, Mica and Arno Jason Justman, Emilia and Devin Fenimore, Sierra and Cole Casten, Katelyn and Kenneth Cole and Alexandra Boyer and Drake Purdy; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.
