Roland Hayes Schultz Sr.

Roland Hayes Schultz Sr., 79, of Mineral Wells, went to be with his Lord on May 4, 2013. Roland was born in Brushie Prairie, Texas, Feb. 27, 1934, the son of the late Robert Sr. and Eliza (Hunt) Schultz.

Roland knew his Lord and Savior; he was baptized at a very young age at St. Delights Methodist Church, and later became a steward at Hughes Chapel in Mineral Wells.

Roland went on to graduate from Pelham High School. In 1954 Roland married Jean Alden Cottrell in Corsicana. The two of them brought to life seven glorious children.

Roland mastered everything he chose to do, from working at the Highway Department, Southern Airways to Geer Tank Truck, which is where he spent most of his career. Later in life he gave way to the entrepreneur spirit and became proud owner of a furniture and antique business.

He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with family.

When he did get some free time he enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques and browsing flea markets.

Roland leaves behind children: Latitia Cade of Mineral Wells; Jennifer and husband, Lowrance Rollie, of Mineral Wells; Sonja and husband, Terry Brady, of Mineral Wells; Maria and husband, Lawrence Searl, of Dallas; Roland Jr. and wife, Karen Schultz, of Mineral Wells; and Stephen Schultz of Mineral Wells; brother, Marcellas, and wife, Louvenia Schultz, of Fort Worth; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by both parents and a daughter, Chrystal Schultz, and his wife, Jean Alden Schultz, in June of 2004.

Funeral service is Saturday, May 11, 2013, 11 a.m. at Hughes Chapel; burial will follow at Woodland Park Cemetery.

Condolences may be left at www.bcbfuneralhome.com.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
