Clara Lee Rodgers, Baptist Bible Fellowship International missionary to Japan since 1950, passed away on March 24, 2014, in Uenohara, Japan (near Tokyo) after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. All are welcome to attend the memorial service that will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Hallmark Baptist Church, 4201 W. Risinger Rd., Ft Worth, TX 76123, Phone: 817-370-0123. Her funeral service and internment took place in Japan on Friday 3/28/2014.
Clara was born to Verle and Evelyn Wilhite on Aug. 12, 1929, in Abilene, Texas. Clara and her first husband, Alvin Marsden, were married in 1949. As BBFI missionaries, they ministered in Japan until his passing to glory in 1983. They were the first couple sent out as missionaries by the Hallmark Baptist Church in 1950. In 1990 she married Lavern Rodgers, also a missionary to Japan with BBFI. She impacted the lives of hundreds of Japanese people alongside her husbands, Alvin and Lavern, in church planting ministries in Japan.
Clara is survived by her husband, Lavern Rodgers; four children, Lenora Morgan, Debra Henderson, David Marsden, and Rebecca Pounds; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grand children.
