Edye Kaye O’Mary

Edye Kaye O’Mary (Brookshire), 54, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at her home near Tecumseh, Okla., after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

Edye was born in Ft. Worth on Feb. 22, 1959. She spent most of her life in Texas until uprooted by her husband to move to a new home in Oklahoma. Edye loved her Oklahoma home, but her heart never really left Texas.

Edye was funny, kind and witty. She was also a devout champion of abused and neglected animals of all kinds.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Wells, Texas. She enjoyed camping at the lake listening to Led Zeppelin and spending quality time with her family, friends and many online acquaintances from around the world.

Edye was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Lee Brookshire; her mother, Evelyn Janice Dollar; her nephew, Kody Ryan Cates; and her father-in-law, Bobbie L. Hickman.

She leaves behind her husband of 20 years, Timothy Alan O’Mary; her son, Scott Alan O’Mary and his wife, Brandy O’Mary; and three beautiful grandchildren: Noah, Natalie and Norah.

She also leaves behind two sisters and their spouses: Jana Lea Cates and her husband, Floyd Cates, of Mineral Wells; and Jill Kala Bomstad and her husband, Wayne Bomstad, of Weatherford. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their spouses and children.

At Edye’s request, no funeral services will be held. However, private memorials will be held for family and friends in both Texas and Missouri. If you are interested in attending the Texas memorial please contact Jana Cates at janacates@yahoo.com or Jill Bomstad at jillbomstad@yahoo.com to make arrangements.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, Edye would have preferred that anyone who so desires please make a contribution of money or time to a local animal shelter or pet rescue organization.

The family wishes to thank all those who loved and prayed with us for Edye, as well as all who were involved in her care. Edye was loved by many, and although she is gone from our presence, she will always occupy our hearts.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
