Virgle Lee Samples Jr., 52, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his home.
Virgle “Pops” Samples was born July 10, 1960, in a United States Military Hospital in Nuernberg, Germany, to Kay and Virgle Samples Sr.
He moved to Mineral Wells with his family in 1976. He attended Mineral Wells High School where he was a member of the wrestling, bowling and baseball teams and graduated in 1979.
His love for cars and passion for fixing almost everything drove him to open a successful automotive repair shop, S&K Automotive, which he continued to work at along side his three sons.
He was a devoted father and dedicated much of his time to coaching his boys and eventually took over as Commissioner of the Optimist Club from 1986 to 2006. Through that, he became a role model and mentor for several young men in the community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mabel, of Mineral Wells; his three sons, Cody Samples, Luke Samples, Stephen Duke Samples and his wife, Jessica, all of Mineral Wells. His father, Virgle Samples Sr., and wife, Karoll, of Farmersville; grandchildren, Cassandra Willingham, Skylar, Kaiden and Kahlea Samples, Madison Samples, Zachary, Emma, and Caleb Samples, all of Mineral Wells; along with numerous family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Kay Samples, and sister, Helena Olivia Clark.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells at 2 p.m.
