Harold Hugh Fisher Sr.

Harold Hugh Fisher Sr., 71, of Mineral Wells, went home to be with his Lord on March 26, 2014, in Fort Worth.

Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at First United Methodist Church. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Harold was born May 30, 1942, in Houston, the son of Harold Henry and Mildred (Ademeck) Fisher. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Clarence Carberry. He married Betty Sue Lyles on April 5, 1963, in Houston.

Harold served his great nation in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Houston, and enjoyed a long career in the oil and gas industry. He even served several stints internationally, until his retirement in 2007.

Retirement was not befitting of Harold. In fact, Harold put a lifetime of public service into his remaining years here on Earth and here in Mineral Wells. Harold served several years as the Palo Pinto County liaison for the Salvation Army. His love of community later evolved into the founding of Noah’s Ark Thrift Store. With help from others in the community, Harold was the driving force that got Noah’s Ark off the ground. In addition his service with Salvation Army and Noah’s Ark, Harold was a previous member of Mineral Wells Rotary Club.

Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells, where he was an instrumental leader, organizing youth mission trips throughout the U.S and Texas. He also used his experience with youth and his passion to help others by substitute teaching in the Mineral Wells ISD. He was a mentor to many students, as he shared his life’s experiences with them. Harold was also the biggest high school basketball fan in the area, supporting the Lady Rams and the Brock Lady Eagles, where his granddaughter Savannah played four years at varsity level on state championship teams.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
