— June M. Maxey was born to Coach Bloomer and Maggie Lake Sullivan June 29, 1924, in Durant, Okla., and passed away Aug. 22, 2013, in Lawton. She was 89 years old.
She married her high school sweetheart, William S. Maxey, on June 18, 1946. Bill passed away March 17, 2003.
She is survived by her son, David Maxey, and wife, Jackie, of Bandera; and her daughter, Margo Romero, of Espanola, NM. She had grandchildren Julie Bridges, Matthew Bellair, Andrew Maxey, Melanie Bellair Maxey, Lon William Maxey, Kina Atencio, Shanna Naranjo, Kali Naranjo and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Alma Brand, of Perryton, and her brother, Dr. Bloomer Don Sullivan, and his wife, Glenda, of Lawton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Marsha Megan; and her sister, Debra Dawn.
She graduated from Durant High School and earned her baccalaureate and masters of teaching at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. June was a mother, homemaker and highly regarded elementary school teacher in several communities in Oklahoma and Texas as she followed her husband’s career. She was a member of the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church.
She and her husband lived for many years at Elk City, Okla., and in Mineral Wells. She resided the last five years of her life in Lawton at the Village on Lee where she enjoyed all activities and was a leader among her peers. She always strived to be agreeable and work amicably with all whom she met. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services were held at Highland Cemetery in Durant at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2013. Services were under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Maxey passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, in Lawton. Visitation was from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the funeral home.
