Pat was born March 10, 1937, in Roaring Springs, Texas, to the late Charles F. Brooks and Edith E. (Sampson) Brooks. She grew up on a farm and attended Roaring Springs Schools. She married Jerry T. Edwards on Aug. 31, 1952, at her parent’s home in Roaring Springs, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She and Jerry owned and operated Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Ranger and Eastland.
Pat was a member of Lone Camp Baptist Church and The 47 Club of Ranger, Texas. For many years she taught Sunday school, Training Union and Vacation Bible School and was a faithful Christian woman. Fondly referred to by her grandkids and many others as “Mama Pat,” she loved to play cards and dominos (she hated to lose) and spending time with her family. She enjoyed the many trips with her FDLIC family, spending time with her sisters and brothers-in-law, and dinners with their “Supper Club.” She also loved attending the Women of Faith conferences and had done so for the past several years. She was an avid and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, and in recent years she enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers and Nascar. She had an infectious laugh and a heart of gold. She will be missed by all of her family and all of those she “adopted” along the way.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Terry M. Edwards and wife, Deana, of Lone Camp; three daughters, Suzanne Hunter and husband, Deron, of Blanco, Texas, Michelle Henson, of Boerne, Texas, and Heather Goad and husband, David, of Azle, Texas; four sisters, Geraldine Skaggs, of Palo Pinto Lake, Genell Carpenter, of Palo Pinto Lake, Earle Price and husband, James, of Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Ann Avara and husband, John, of Denver City, Texas; a sister-in-law, Valerie Jenkins, of Colleyville, Texas; nine grandchildren, Ben Edwards, Blake Edwards, Ian Edwards, Orie Edwards, Brandy Bartz and husband, Zack, Wendy Tate, Megan Goad, Brooke Goad and Kristin Lane; one great-grandson, Taylor Tate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milton Brooks and C.C. “Preacher” Brooks; and three sisters, Ruby Whitaker, Delores Smallwood and Vivian Woods.
