Lorean “Granny” Logan Weldon

Lorean “Granny” Logan Weldon 91, died peacefully with her family by her side on December 25, 2012 in Mineral Wells. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Possum Kingdom at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. Brother Jim Alling officiating. Interment at McAdams Cemetery. Lorean was born in Bryson on May 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Clyde Norman·and Rena Lavina (Kinder) Gillispie. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-laws: D Annette & Jesse Dobbs, Friendswood, Sherry Kincaid, Graford, Erma & Wayne Cobb, Mineral Wells, and Nita & Bud Calicutt, Arp; stepson and step daughter-in-law: Dannie Weldon & Linda, Weatherford, step-daughter: Nellie Lisee, Feeding Hills, Mass., grandchildren spouses, Chet (DeAnn) Johnson, San Antonio, Jana (Michael) Smalley - Baytown, Stephanie Cobb (Richard Igo), Graford, Cody Lyon - Frisco, Todd (Karen Sue) Kincaid, Graford, Misty (Joe) Ferro, League City, Georganna Vickers - Arp, Staci (Eric) Jackson - Justin, step grandchildren: Rodney (Bob) Lisee, Mass., Cindy (Lenny) Arrington-Temecula, Calif., Arte (Joni) Lisee, Feeding Hills, Mass., Robert (Kadi) Weldon, Marble Falls, Ben (Tara) Weldon - Granbury; great- grandchildren: Jacy Smalley Cooper, Jared Hall, Chase Johnson, Brandon Hall, Aaron Johnson, Kady Smalley, Ty Lyon, Victoria Ferro, Stayton Leach, Joseph Ferro, Trey Lyon, Olivia Ferro, and Britton Vickers, great-great- grandchildren: Caymus Cooper, Landon and Logan Cobb, Gjelina Cooper, step great-grandchildren: Alexandra Ferro, Jason Lisee, Samantha Lisee, Cristian Weldon, Ryker Weldon, Bailey Weldon, Chloe Weldon, brother:  Clydean Gillispie (Vondell) Abilene; and sister-in-law: Mary Ann Gillispie - Graford; nieces: Dixie (Ricky) Smiddy, Weatherford, Brenda (Ray) Blevins, Mineral Wells, Phyllis (Eddie) Odom, Llano, Kay (Louis) Ragle, Graford, Deana (Jim) Meredith, Fort Worth, Jerry (Kevin) Hoffman, Lorena, and Jeanie Gillispie; nephews: Frank Bates, James Bates (Shirley) - Fort Worth, Billy GiIlispie,- Lubbock, Wayne Gillispie, Michael Gillispie, Carthage, TX, Kyle Gillispie- Carthage; Grandchild of the heart: Johnny Pope,Magnolia. She leaves many great nieces, great-great nieces, great nephews,great-great nephews, several cousins and the many wonderful friends with whom she was blessed throughout her life. Preceded in death by husbands: Curtis G Logan and Loyd Weldon, grandsons: Phillip Kincaid and Lloyd “Bubba” Johnson, son-in-law: Toby Kincaid, brothers: Sherrill Gillispie, Earnest Gillispie, Varron “Shorty” Gillispie, sisters: Bessie Gene Gillispie, Effie Gene Sain, Elizabeth Bates McAlister, Geraldine “Jerry” Weeks, step son-in-law: Ray Lisee, and special nephews: Matt Gillispie and Jess V. Ragle. She attended Graford area schools until Jan. 26, 1940 when she married Curtis “Curt’ G Logan and they started their journey. Curt worked for the WPA in various locations including Morris B Shepherd Dam at PK Lake. They returned to Graford to start farming and raising a family. She was a very devoted wife and mother and participated at church, school and with her children’s activities. She and Curt worked very hard and overcame lots of hardships during these hard times. She always delivered lunch to the Held which she cooked every morning during planting/harvest times. We called it a picnic. They loved taking their children to the drive-in movie and making ice cream with long time friends. Her Dad and brothers always knew when she was baking pies and they would just happen to stop by. Her mother and sisters shared many laughs. One of her favorite things was to tell about the fun things she and her cousins did at her grandmother and grandfather’s place on Kinder Mountain, a place she loved. Curt died August 02, 1977. They were married 37 years. She loved to play or coach softball especially her granddaughter’s team and was on the Mepco-Electra team as a pitcher. Another past time she enjoyed was square dancing. She served as Mrs. President of “The Palo Pinto Promenaders.” She married Loyd Weldon on May 07, 1983. They would enjoy many happy times square dancing and making new friends. She worked for Mepco-Electra for 30 years, She retired as a purchasing agent in. Purchasing in 1986. She was affectionately know as “Granny” and was loved by many. She and Loyd enjoyed going to Ruidoso, NM during the summers to live. Fond memories of new friends they acquired while working at Ruidoso Downs and the good times they had dancing at the Win, Place or Show Club. She was a busy grandmother, taking all the grandkids to Six Flags, Sandy Beach at Possum Kingdom Lake, Ranger ballgames or to The Bunkhouse in Ruidoso, N.M. Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of their adventures with their “Granny.” She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graford for many years and currently is a member at Oran Baptist Church. Her faith was strengthened as her family continued to deal with the loss of family members and good friends. The loss of two grandsons (Nov. 1996) and Loyd (Jan. 1997) were very difficult for her. She was like a rock foundation during these times. She remained devoted to her family. In 2008 she moved to Palo Pinto Nursing Center and lived there until her death. The family would like to thank this facility for the loving care she received while a resident. She was a loving, generous, hard working woman who loved her family passionately and Graford, was the only place she ever wanted to live. She was deeply proud of her involvement with anything regarding Graford Ex-Student Homecoming Association which she proudly served as Secretary/Treasurer for 25 years and the Ex-Student Scholarship Fund. She was one of the original founding members. Classmates and school friends were often fondly remembered. Christmas time was her favorite time of the year. Other interests included gardening, baking cakes, cooking country breakfasts for her family, writing about Kinder Mountain and helping anyone she could. She will be forever loved and missed by many. Devoted to Family. But in the light of Jesus’ birth, Christmas can be a wonderful time to die - because what greater gift could a loved one receive than the key to the new and perfect life that Christ lived and died for on our behalf?
