— JACKSBORO – Bobbie Ruth Garrett Alston, 83, of Jacksboro, Texas, passed away June 12, 2014, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro with the Rev. Woodrow Holman, of Layman Chapel C.M.E. Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Percy Garner & Son Mortuary in San Augustine, Texas.
Bobbie Ruth Garrett was born in San Augustine to Katie Mary (Miles) and Dave “Snuffy” Garrett on Dec. 11, 1931. She was member of Mount Pisgah C.M.E. Church in Jacksboro and Magnolia C.M.E. Church in Dallas. Mrs. Alston spent the majority of her life in Jacksboro, but also previously resided in San Augustine, Mineral Wells, Fort Worth and Grand Prairie.
Mrs. Alston is survived by children, David “Butch” Garner, of San Augustine, Larry Donnell Anders, of Gainesville, and Linda Kay (Anders) Wilson, of Grand Prairie. She also leaves behind grandchildren David J. Garner (Trish), of Millsap, Lon Garner II (Roslyn), of McKinney, Michael Garner (Jenny), of Allen, Jessica Anders, of Gainesville, Amber (Garner) Parks (Craig), of Lingleville, and Donnelle Morris, of Grand Prairie; sister, Clairetta Hale of Houston; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her father, Dave “Snuffy” Garrett; mother, Katie Mary Garrett; daughter, Sharron Jean (Anders) Perry; son-in-law, Charles C. Wilson Sr.; and grandson, Fredrick Anders.
