Letters to the Editor

Community thanked for feeding residents

Dear Editor,

My father is a resident of the Crazy Water Retirement Hotel. The recent incident involving the kitchen at the hotel was heartbreaking, but how wonderful that local food establishments and the hospital came through with food for these “seniors” and that the city employees put in extra time to deliver the meals.

My family just wanted to say a hearty “thank you” to everyone who was involved in making sure that those people had food to eat. We could have gone and gotten food for my dad or taken him somewhere to eat if need be, but some of those people up there don’t have anyone who could have done that and the city realized that and thus stepped in and made sure there was food for them.

Thank you to our health inspector for doing her job properly – she could have shut it down sooner, but knew those dear people needed food so she gave them more than one chance to get something done. My Dad tells me everything is back up and running and the food has been exceptionally good the last few days so we hope this continues.

Sincerely,

Vera M. Stilwell, Mineral Wells

Signs should warn motorists of dangers

Dear Editor,

As a Palo Pinto resident, I agree with the “Share the Road” article on placing signs on Farm-to-Market Road 4, but they should read, “Beware: possible bicyclist speed bumps ahead.”

Anyone who travels this road knows there are little to no shoulders for an escape and a motorist has very little notice/warning. Therefore, cyclists are endangering themselves as well as motorists when they try to ride this road.

I am very surprised no one has died because of this yet. As Sheriff Ira Mercer estimated, “accidents on this portion of FM 4 kills or badly injures at least three motorcycle riders each year.”

I have had some near misses and was lucky no one was coming from the other direction so I could move to the other lane. The motorist that will be involved in such an incident should not be held responsible for cyclists endangering themselves and everyone who travels FM 4.

I feel very sorry for those who will be involved when this finally happens. Maybe they should stick to the trails and roads with shoulders or are they seeking the thrill of danger that could be deadly?

Sincerely,

Steven Haar, Palo Pinto

Thanks to all who helped with fire

Dear Editor,

This letter is to thank the Mineral Wells Fire Department, the Mineral Wells Police

Department, All State Insurance and neighbors who responded to the recent fire at my

deceased mother’s house.

The neighbor discovered the fire reported it to the authorities, and then telephoned me to let me know what had happened.

The fire department responded quickly and professionally. They quickly contained the fire and moved furniture in an adjacent room to the center of the room and protected it from damage with a large red tarp.

The police cordoned off the area and directed traffic so no one else was endangered.

My insurance company sent an adjuster out the next day and arranged for a fire recovery agency to have the household items removed, cleaned and retimed.

It makes me glad to know I live in a town where people are treated as people.

Clyde Guess, Mineral Wells
