Making no insurance costly for drivers

Dear Editor,

Regarding the Mineral Wells Index on Sunday, Aug. 17, “Slam, bam, no insurance ma’am,” I was appalled at the amount of people who are involved in traffic accidents and do not have insurance. I have been told that some people are able to get insurance and pay for it on a monthly basis, then cancel the insurance as soon as they get current vehicle plates.

There has to be a way to stop people from doing this. I think one way would be to have traffic check points to check for license, up-to-date insurance, and up-to-date plates. In the event that everything is not in order or that they have outstanding warrants; I feel that the vehicle should be impounded until proof is shown and released by the police department.

I think this would be rather costly to the violator and they might think twice before driving without insurance.

Enjoys reading about ‘Heroes’,/b>

Dear Editor,

I would like to say how much that I enjoy reading in the Index about heroes in our city. To me we can see the men and women who take care of the city and outward around the community and at least we could say ourselves a big “thank you” ourselves.

It is very helpful for us to at least know the faces of the people that come and risk their lives for us. Recently it was Doyle Light. I myself, when I had my heart attack, he was one of the EMTs who came. I live at Heritage Manor Apartments and he has been there for several around here. Mr. Light cares deeply about his work and the people he helps. Not only him but also the rest of the EMTs and firefighters.

Again, many thanks to all of the EMTs and firefighters. Job well done.

Also thank you for what you all are doing.

Reedy has been one of my heroes

Dear Editor,

The article on Aug. 22 about Wayne Reedy was wonderful. Wayne is one of those “Real American Heroes.” Wayne is a quiet, modest man who never bragged about it, never talked about it and never got credit for it. Wayne has always been one of my heroes.

Which candidate?

Dear Editor,

For what it’s worth from an oldie’s observations, after carefully observing the two individuals who are seeking the office of the President of the United States of America, listening to their statements and reading what they have written, I have concluded that one of them is a prevaricator, a hypocrite, a polished blabbermouth politician, a bamboozler and a flimflam man.

If you do your homework on this very important issue I believe you will come to the same conclusion.

Clearing things up

Dear Editor,

I need to make a few corrections to the first thank you note sent to the editor on Aug. 24. The organization did a great job and I would like to give special attention to those who worked very hard to make it happen.

I would like to thank the Mineral Wells Merchant’s Association for sponsoring the “Welcome Back Breakfast” for all area educators on Aug. 18 at Mineral Wells High School.

Special thanks to Mrs. Genevieve Baeza-Rodriguez and Mrs. Mary Motley who coordinated the displays and the food for the merchant’s association. There were 50 displays by merchants and related businesses for the educators to visit. Door prizes and samples of school supplies were given by many of the merchants represented.

William Eudy of Southside Church of Christ was the official speaker for the event.

His words were motivating and inspiring.

We are blessed to have a community that supports our school staff in their work. This “Welcome Back Breakfast” is one way that our merchants and service organizations show their care and concern.
