Letters to the Editor

Ted Ray will be missed
Dear Editor,

Philosophy professor Morrie Schwartz believed “that a community is far more powerful than an individual and that making an impact on that community is far more fulfilling than focusing only on individual goals.”

I think Ted Ray also felt this way. Ted loved his community and as a commissioner I feel Ted made a dynamic impact on our community.

I know that as a friend, Ted most definitely made an impact on my life.

I will miss him.

A broad-brush invitation to upcoming art show
Dear Editor,

The Mineral Wells Art Association would like to invite everyone to visit the Creative Arts Center on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, from noon to 4 p.m. to view the artwork on display. All artists in the area have been invited to participate and a great show is expected.

This is the groups’ annual judged show. So, if you are in town next Saturday, be sure and visit or, if your Saturday is too busy, be sure and come down that Sunday. It will be worth your trip.

The Art Center is located five blocks west of downtown Mineral Wells on N.W. 5th Avenue just one block north of U.S. Highway 180. Look for the little rock building (trimmed in white) north of the old high school.

Many pieces of beautiful artwork will be enjoyed as you tour this historic old building. Parking is available along the west side of N.W. 5th Avenue or at the back of the Creative Arts Center.

Thank you,

Casey Lister, president
Mineral Wells Art Association

MoveOn.org supporters can’t have it both ways
Dear Editor,

To the people and supporters of Move on.org’s anti war protest, you can’t have your cake and eat it, too. You can’t say you support our troops then turn around and say what they are doing is unjust.

There is no grey area here. Either you fall in line or get the hell out of the way. I know I sleep better at night knowing that the conflict is happening half way around the world as opposed to half way up the street. The world has changed since the day of 9-11. Before that day not many people knew what the terror alert colors were. And until we win the War on Terror we will always be on high alert.

I have two cousins currently serving in Iraq, both from Mineral Wells. I am curious as to what they will say about this protest in their hometown. I know with speaking to one’s father (Thursday) he said he agreed with me.

You folks are doing more harm to the country, the soldiers and the citizens then you are doing good. One good thing that came out of this anti-war protest is that next time my family and I go out to eat we will “move on” past Don Marcos and go somewhere else to eat.

Take a closer look at MoveOn.org
Dear Editor,

Well isn’t that special. An anti-war rally right in little ole Mineral Wells, Texas, sponsored by MoveOn.org. Who would have thought it?

Isn’t it ironic that we can live in a country where those who fight for our freedoms and the freedoms and liberties we enjoy can be honored by the scumbag likes of an organization like MoveOn.org? I challenge supporters of this MoveOn.org rally to take a real look at the organization, its leadership, and their agenda before you attend any MoveOn.org functions again.

MoveOn.org is funded by documented criminal George Soros. Yes, this criminal was convicted of insider trading in France in 2002 and fined $2 million. So that gets us started. Soros has used his pocket change to fund groups like MoveOn.org and the Open Society Institute, which continues to lobby against our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. In the past two election cycles the MoveOn.org political action committee has spent over $58 million for their pro-Democratic advocacy (according to the Federal Election Commission). MoveOn continues to find the most leftwing liberal, anti-NRA, pro-abortion, pro-United Nations candidates they can in order bring the United States of America into the global fold.

Yes Soros wants to take your rights to own firearms away. He currently funds the Open Society Institute, which is lobbying and supporting United Nations efforts to create International Gun Control.

This group has been successful in taking away firearms from law-abiding citizens of great nations like the United Kingdom, for one. My friends in the UK tell me that Soros was instrumental in funding these efforts in their country. According to the OSI, the United States is next on its list. They continue to use money to fund anti-gun agenda candidates all across the country, in an effort to take our freedoms away.

Soros pushed for the Bi-Partisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (better known to us as the McCain-Feingold Act). He wanted the political contributions from large corporations to stop funding campaigns.

Now we have a situation where wealthy individuals are starting 527 organizations (these organizations claim tax exemptions under Section 527 of the Internal Revenue Service Code) to fund their agendas. These 527 groups have taken the voice away from corporate America so they can hog all of the political influence. However, in the 2004 election cycle, MoveOn.org was fined $150,000 by the Federal Election Commission for failure to abide by the federal campaign laws they sought to create.

Soros is yet another immigrant who found his way to the greatest country on the face of the earth, made his billions, and now spends them on tearing our country apart.

In closing, I think its paramount that the citizens of Mineral Wells support our troops. We all want an end to the Iraq war. No matter what side of the issue you take, we all need to support the efforts of our troops. In my opinion most of the men and women of our Armed Services would have been ashamed of what happened in Mineral Wells this week. I cannot support the efforts of Move On.org and will not support those who perpetuate their ultra liberal agenda in Mineral Wells.

Please support our troops and continue to keep them in your prayers.

God bless America.
