Letters to the Editor
Which demon to elect?
Dear Editor,
Come quickly, Lord Jesus, if either John McCain or Barack Hussein Obama become president.
Scripture teaches pre-millennial Christians, like me, that when the world becomes so bad, He will rapture His church out of here in the “twinkling of the eye.”
Both of these creatures voted for the socialist bailout. Hey, Mr. Graford bank robber, you got caught because you didn’t think big enough! If you had stolen billions, why you’d be an honored member of society and congressmen would bend their knee to you.
To see my country going down the tube is a tribulation to me. Especially when the majority of Palo Pinto voters will vote for the same demons who got us in this mess.

Writer in support of Bob Manskey
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter, in support of Bob Manskey, to the undecided voters in the race for Precinct 1 county commissioner. Hopefully, both of you read and take it to heart.
I have known Bob for more than 10 years and he is a good solid person. He is a strong family man who devotes his time to his church and his community. I believe his character and integrity to be without question. While I have heard Bob say that both candidates are qualified, let me list why I believe Bob is the more qualified:
• Leadership. Bob learned leadership in one of the world’s finest training environments, the U.S. Army. He refined the tools that Army issued him during 40 years in the business world. This is the style of leadership that counts on the advise and input from others while working towards a solution. Perfect for a commissioner.
• Experience. Bob’s military and business experience gives him the ability to sift through competing issues, identify the critical ones, and develop solutions. County government is a $14 million business and it has to be run like a business. Based on the information provided at the last voter forum, Bob is much more experienced working in and managing a $14 million dollar business than his opponent.
• Vision. Based on the last forum, I believe Bob has the clearer vision of the needs of the county today and into the future. He knows the job is more than “fix my road” and is very open with the county residents about that. He knows that while roads are important, the role of the commissioners in financially shaping the county is critical for future growth. He understands the need for fiscal responsibility is will cast the unpopular vote if it is the better decision for the county.
Please vote in this election and I hope you vote for Manskey for county commissioner, Precinct 1.
Respectfully,
Mike McConnell, Mineral Wells
People cause wrecks, not intersections
Dear Editor,
In response to Charles Tirrell’s letter about the need for a traffic signal by the library because of the accidents there, the plain truth is that there could be a light at every intersection in town and there would still be accidents!
Why? Because people cause accidents, not intersections without lights. There has been a light at Farm-to-Market Road 1821 and U.S. Highway 180 West for 30 years and there are more accidents there than anywhere in town.
If, when people are in their vehicle, they would do nothing but drive – no reading, no putting on makeup, etc. – then their attention would be where it belongs, on the road, and would all drivers obey the laws of the road there would be far less accidents, less injuries and the like.
Some of the lights in town should be reprogrammed and some should be taken down in order to better serve the drivers and save some fuel.
Some cities think as Mr. Tirrel and put lights up thinking that it will solve the traffic problems instead of looking at the real problem.
Thank you for the space. Tune in later for the rest of the story.

Cast vote on Biblical principles
Dear Editor,
As I write this note to the editor, I do not intend to intentionally offend anyone, but only want to express some thoughts which I feel important matters.
God. Just who is God? Do you know who He is? He is the creator of the universe and all that is in it, even you and I who owe our very existence to Him. Some use His name in vain and use His name as a curse word. They even curse America where they enjoy the freedom of expression. God is Jehovah, God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob and the only God.
Many people have forgotten God as we have become more prosperous and have allowed material things to take His place in their lives. Many of our churches are full of empty seats, which testify to the neglect of worshiping Him.
However, God is still God just as He was to the nation of Israel and provided a path across the Red Sea to escape when pursued by their enemies. He was also with Gen. George Washington in the battle at Valley Forge when many Jewish people supplied the funds to equip Washington’s army to defeat the British army to win America’s independence from Great Britain.
The Star of David appears on our one dollar bill in honor of the aid the Jewish people gave us. He has protected America many other times in the past. God was with our forefathers as they prepared our Constitution, which guarantees our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Which, by the way, gives even the unborn child the right to life. We have lost our respect for human life, and our respect for authority is no longer taught at home by parents. It took my mother less than five minutes to teach me a lesson in respect one time by the use of a bridle rein that was handy at the barn. Today that would be called “child abuse’’ but I call it a blessing by a mother who loved me and wanted me to be a gentleman.
Speaking of teaching, the Bible does not teach same sex marriage as being the acceptable idea of marriage. If you do not believe that just read about Sodom and Gomorrah in the book of Genesis in the Bible and how he destroyed the citizens of both cities because of the practice we now approve as a society. God is the same yesterday, today and forever and that means. He will never change! When He promises in his Word that He will bless the nation who blesses or defends Israel (His people) and will curse the nation who does not bless or defend Israel, He means every word.
He has blessed America so far, and if we want those blessings continued, we need to remember His promise. Remember to vote and vote on Biblical principles. Read and be informed as to what each candidate for office stands for on moral and spiritual issues as well as the political issues. Men and women have fought and died for our right to vote and it is up to us to be responsible citizens of this great country and exercise our rights. Remember the promises of men are only promises, but their real character is what counts after the election.
May God bless America.

Crazy Kicker appreciates support
Dear Editor,
Where would you look if you wanted to see over 60 volunteers in action on one of the sunniest and best fall days you will ever see in the state of Texas?
The Kiwanis Crazy Kicker last Saturday was very successful, even though the rider turnout was lower than expected. Many thanks to all those who helped make the day a success.
Jason Nesmith and his band of motorcycle riders provided eyes on the road, the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Department officers and Mineral Wells Police Department were present to watch over the tricky intersections. Mr C’s and Famous Water Co. came through for our thirsty rider’s needs. Jack Powell Ford was generous as usual, thank you Kiwanian Jack! Moore and Moore Atty. was there with the rest stop food well organized and tasty, thanks to Kiwanian Cora! Mitchell’s RV Park and The Booksatchell, thanks Kiwanian Heidi. Century 21,Properties Unlimited came through again and a big thanks to Matt Butcher for “sag” driving for the sixth year in a row!
Our Chamber of Commerce helped both financially and with volunteers. Way to go! Keg 1 O’Neals, Crawford and Carter and Thompson (thanks Kiwanian Charles!) were generous supporters. Kathy Foster and Kim Power were volunteers with pizzaz! The Key Club at MWHS and Peggy Harvey were at the park running the finish line rest stop, a great crew of young men and women. First Financial Bank and First State Bank helped tremendously, a big thanks to Kiwanians Mike, Eddy, Brad and Shirley! Chicken Express and Hamilton Tire rounds out the official sponsors of our event.
Kiwanis clubs from Stephenville and Graham each had rest stops. The Palo Pinto United Methodist Church took another rest stop. Of course the Huzzies were at Palo Pinto Stop and thanks to Leonard, too! Our Kiwanis Club is small but active and every member was on board to help. Thanks to Barry and Margie, Penni, Dianna, Bob and Roy, Steve (honorary K for the Day) and Mary Sue and Amanda who were there for the riders. Elvis Bunnell entertained and American Legion again shot off the cannon that perhaps the whole town heard at 8 a.m.
Thanks again and realizing this letter cannot possibly mention everyone, my apologies to those I missed but big hugs to all who helped make our ride successful this year. I believe this event is a perfect example of small town people working together to make something BIG happen.
Lyn Butcher, Ride Director

PS: Donnie Hoover is an outstanding example of the fine park staff of Mineral Wells. He was there at 5:30 a.m.!
PSS: If you are interested in joining this dedicated group of Kiwanians, (you, too, could have this funny name) come to Holiday Hills Country Club any Tuesday at noon and join us for lunch.
