Thanks from a veteran
My thanks to all who made the Veterans Day Celebration a success. It was a beautiful day in Mineral Wells, bright sunshine and a gentle breeze.
Something special happened to me while watching the program. My mind had drifted 10,000 miles away back to the rice fields of Vietnam. Suddenly, I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder and a child was there. She placed a handmade card into my hand and quickly moved away. Such a nice card it is with large letters on the outside saying Veterans Day. Inside with perfectly imperfect letters it said: “Thank you for your service,” signed Shelby.
So Shelby, you touched an old helicopter pilot’s heart today. I treasure your card, appreciate you and your actions. To your teacher I say thank you for teaching the children that freedom isn’t free. It is earned by the men and women willing to serve their country.
If you thanked a veteran today good for you; if you didn’t, that’s OK; there is always next year.
To all of my chopper pilot friends, be proud, we did our best.
Wells was a CW2 Warrant officer who flew with the Thunderbird gun team in Soc Trang 1965-66.
Thanks from a board member
My family and I thank all the voters participating in the recent Palo Pinto County Hospital District election. I am honored to be continuing on the board in the Place 2 seat. Along with the other six directors, I pledge to continue working to improve and broaden local healthcare services for all citizens of our county. Many challenges face us in the coming months and years, but with the help of our dedicated PPGH employees, local physicians and other concerned citizens, we will meet them head-on.
Again, thank you for allowing me the privilege to work on your behalf as an elected member of the PPCHD-PPGH board.
