An act of kindness
My wife and I and another couple and their daughter had dinner at a Mineral Wells restaurant April 19 following the Easter Vigil Mass. We all had a very enjoyable dinner, and when I asked for the check I was told, “I’m sorry, but your dinner has already been paid for.”
We were all taken aback. “But who was it,” we asked, and were told they had already left. My wife and I are reasonably new to Texas from New Jersey. This sort of thing just doesn’t happen where we used to live, and it just assures us more that we made the right decision to come to Texas to live.
When I was much younger this event would have been termed a random act of kindness. I’m thinking this is possibly a “Pay It Forward” event, and I’m already looking to be sure I pay it forward for three more.
God Bless you, whoever you are, you touched me – no, all of us – more than you know.

Search for director needs to begin
At the board meeting of the Mineral Wells Senior Center held April 28, the board made the decision to delay looking for a new director until August. The board wants to wait until after the Taste of Palo Pinto County fund raiser.
This is an important fund raiser for the center, but it seems like the board should be seeking qualified applicants for the director’s job in addition to planning for this event. The board could then support that person in all the tasks which are part of the director’s job description including fund raising.
As it now stands the interim director has to continue with her previous duties as assistant director and also undertake the extra responsibilities which previously were done by the director. Board members have offered assistance. However, most of the members will not be able to donate much time since they are employed. Others who are not employed do not have the qualifications needed for the job of director. It would be more beneficial to have a new director and the existing assistant director at work for the senior center.
