Welcome soaking rains fall out Perrin way, fundraiser set

By KAY MEALIO

As of Wednesday morning, we have received about 3 inches of rain. It has been a gentle rain, no downpours to fill up the stock tanks, but every ounce was sucked up by the parched ground. Believe me, we’re not complaining one bit. The cooler weather has also been enjoyed. It really doesn’t feel like mid-July in Texas with the highs only being in the low 80s. I don’t know if anyone noticed about that old wives tale I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, but it was confirmed. We heard the thunder in February, received the frost in April and we didn’t get a hard rain in July, but we did get a few sprinkles on July 11 as predicted. Several areas around us got more rain on that day, too. It is thundering a bit now and starting to rain again, so I’ll give an update to the total rainfall next week.

The Sparks Spring Advent Church had to cancel their VBS that was scheduled from July 24-26 due to illness in the congregation. We are praying for Elaine Minton on her upcoming tests.

The annual Community Club fundraiser dinner and draw down raffle is on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Perrin High School Gym. A 2013 Kawasaki Mule will be raffled off and a silent auction will be available.

Donations of items for the auction will be appreciated. Tickets are $50, second-chance insurance is available for an extra $20. Each ticket comes with two free steak dinners. For more information contact Tom Oleksyn at 817-597-9113. All monies will benefit Perrin-Whitt students of FFA and 4H.

The Perrin Advent Christian Church will be having their VBS Aug. 4-9 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The theme of the VBS is visiting Athens with Paul on his missionary journey. All ages are welcome.

New student registration at the school is Aug. 1 in the school office.

Believe it or not, new teachers at the school are to report for duty Aug. 15 and 16, then all teachers are to report on Monday, Aug. 19. School begins on Monday, Aug. 26.

Thought for the week:

Enjoy yourself. These are the “good old days” you’re going to miss in the years ahead.
