Computer woes, free eats & VBS

— By Kay Mealio

If anyone is contemplating purchasing a new computer, they need to contact me. I’ve had nothing but trouble with my new purchase.

I’m the type who wants the newest and most innovative and I got it with Windows 8. I’m not much of a technical person, but I can usually figure things out eventually. But this Windows 8 is a monster and I’m wishing for my old computer back! I finally was at my wits' end and contacted Dell to have help in reformatting my hard drive and install Windows 7 on it. We got a good service rep who did help Fred in taking off Windows 8 and it died a slow and painful death. They were on the phone over two hours.

Now the problem is with drivers and other technical stuff. Fortunately my son is a computer IT technician and he helped me download the correct items, so as of right now I am up and working; but my email is still messed up Hopefully I can get that worked out soon.

The monthly food pantry distribution is provided by the Probation Office of Jack County, First Baptist Church of Perrin and Perrin Advent Christian Church. Any church, organization or individual is welcome to contribute. Contacts are Debra Tillery: (940) 798-4173; Monna Lyon: (940) 798-2390; Janice Francis: (940) 798-3265; or Linda Patton: (940) 798-2090. Food distribution is held on the third Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. This month it's on June 15, and is distributed from the Advent Christian Fellowship Hall. Presently there are approximately three to six individuals and 15 to 18 families (with three to five children in each household) being provided with food, and all are very appreciative of the food. These are older individuals with a fixed income, some with heath issues, others working, but have a limited income, and some who have lost their jobs. There are no requirements to receive food except it is for people who live in the Perrin area or live in the Perrin-Whitt CISD.

The First Baptist Church will be having their VBS for ages pre-K through 6th grade beginning Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 21 from 6-8:45 pm. Students may preregister before 3 p.m. at the church office. The theme of the VBS is Kingdom Chronicles “Putting on the full armor of God,” Ephesians 6:11. Come to the Royal Fun Fair!

The Sparks Spring Advent Church will be having their VBS July 24-26 from 7-8:30. I’ll give more details about their VBS as the time nears.

This summer there is a Summer Meals for Kids program at the school.

All kids 18 and younger are invited to come have lunch at the PWCISD cafeteria for FREE. They don't have to be a student at the school to come eat. Time for the meals are Monday through Thursday, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and will be offered June 7 - July 11 (closed July 4th). The Summer Nutrition Program is paid for by the USDA and program sponsors. www.summerfood.org

It may be disheartening for elementary kids, but the 2013-14 school supply list is now available at the school’s website (www.pwcisd.net) for grades Pre-K through 6th.

Don’t forget to be planning on celebrating the “100 Years of Perrin” Centennial Celebration. To celebrate the 100th birthday of the Perrin School District all in the community are invited to participate in the festivities. All churches, community groups and interested individuals are encouraged to attend. On Thursday, Sept 26, there will be a Citywide Festival with booths and games to be held on concrete parking lot between the school’s new gym and the ag barn. At dark there will be a bonfire in the grassy area west of the barn. The parade will be Friday, Sept. 27. We encourage all exes, clubs, churches and businesses to be planning on an entry in the parade. We will give further details on all of the events as thetime nears.

Thought for the week: To err is human. But to really louse it up, it takes a computer.
