For the third year in a row, Jake Hall has advanced to the State UIL meet. Jake will be competing in the Computer Science contest in Austin on May 21. Jake was the District Champ and placed second at the regional meet in qualifying for the state meet.

Friday, May 10, is designated as a bad weather day as is Friday, May 17, and students have the day off. They also have May 27, Memorial Day, off and the last day of school is May 31 for those with FLEX days; otherwise the last day of school is June 6. Graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 7.

On May 16, the K-2nd grade will go to the Ft. Worth Zoo for their field trip.

Kindergarten graduation ceremonies will be Thursday, May 30, at 1 p.m. in the elementary gym. Following the ceremony there will be cake and punch served at the playground.

The next Perrin PTO meeting will be Thursday, May 16, at 4 p.m. in the elementary gym. New officers will be nominated and voted on. If you want to have input please plan to attend.

Food Distribution at Perrin Advent Christian Fellowship Hall will be Saturday, May 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. Enter at north side of church. The third Saturday of each month there will be a canned food distribution at the Advent Christian Church, 300 S. Marks St., Perrin. The food is provided by the County Probation Office and local churches and distributed throughout the county. There are no requirements to receive food except it is for people who live in the Perrin area or live in the Perrin-Whitt CISD. For more information, contact Debra Tillery.

The 9th Annual Perrin Coaches Golf Tournament will be at the Bridgeport Country Club on Saturday, May 18. There will prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one prizes. Lunch will be served between 12:30 and 1:30. The Perrin FBLA is selling Beanie Babies in which all profits goes to the March of Dimes. The Beanies are set up in the school library and most cost about $5.

Don’t forget to start planning for the big 100th anniversary of the Perrin School which is set for Sept. 26-28. There will be booths with games, parade, a bonfire, Homecoming football, followed by student dance and culminating with class reunions. There will be a Memorial Day celebration at Mitchell Park May 24-27 with their 6th annual Crazy Hat Parade and also Elvis performance.

Perrin-Whitt Elementary will have one team competing in Battle of the Books this year. The team is made up of 5th- and 6th-graders who love to read. Each student will be expected to read 15 books and be ready to answer questions about the books in the May 21 competition.

The BOB competition will be held in Mineral Wells at the high school gym beginning at 9 a.m. The team members are Rocky Moore, Noah Kuhn, Hanky Moore, Kendal Armstrong, and Kelli Tucker.
