What absolutely luscious fall weather we’ve been having. Cool mornings, fog and rain, wonderful autumn smells.
Back in August when I went out to water my garden each morning, I began feeling that autumn feel. Maybe there was a hint of a cool breeze. Maybe there was just a faint odor.
Then the summer birds drifted away, and now other birds, the winter birds, are slowly congregating at our feeders and dripper. Gone are the painted buntings, replaced by the tiny ruby crowned kinglet. Soon the American Kestrels will replace the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers.
There is one thing that has disturbed me about the changing seasons. My friend Ninfa and I were at Walmart and saw there were Christmas trees already in place. Now really, Ninfa commented, what happened to Halloween and Thanksgiving!
But that, of course, is commercialism going crazy and not the beauty of God’s world turning, turning.
