Reflections on made-up words

One of our grandsons attends Westlake Academy. But did you know there is a Southlake and a Northlake, all in northern Tarrant County or Denton County? I can’t imagine why there isn’t an Eastlake, but there doesn’t seem to be. At least not in Texas, anyway!

Have you noticed how many compound words there are where place names are concerned? I have seen this for years and years, and I have meant to say something about it. Now I am.
