Reflections: on Driving to Church in the rain

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!

Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!

Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!

Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

    -Charles Wesley, 1839

I hope everyone is having a wonderful, joyous, and happy Easter!  May the Lord bless you now and forevermore!

Now on to my column.

Last Sunday, Palm Sunday, we were doing our normal Sunday activities.  We rose at eight, showered, dressed, and headed to Donuts Supreme for our breakfast.  It was a day of rejoicing, as it was raining as well as being a feast day for the Church.

Following breakfast we headed to Weatherford to attend All Saints Anglican Church, which we do sometimes, and we were really rejoicing in the weather, the glorious rain, when, as we topped the hill beyond the train underpass, our new car started sputtering and spitting and making terrible sounds.

As we were half-way to Weatherford, we decided to go on, hoping we could make it to church and back home.

By the time we got to the church, the car was making quite a racket, and it would barely power itself on at each stop light.  One of our friends there assured us that we should call him if we had trouble getting home.  Thanks, Steve!

We worshipped and then started the car to head for home.  The check engine light was on and all the computer-driven parts of the car were acting up, but it wasn’t over heating.  Rain was still coming down, and the car’s traction device was messed up, so we drove slowly and carefully.  We had already contacted our daughter and son-in-law to be on standby in case we needed rescuing.

Thankfully we made it first to Metro and then on home, and the next morning Raf call Lynn Reasoner at Automotive Tech Center, and he told us to bring the car on in.
