Perrin church plans June mission trip to Haiti

Fundraisers planned to help send volunteers on trip to provided needed supplies, support

PERRIN – Haiti is a country that has been ravaged by floods and in January of 2010, a devastating earthquake killed over 300,000 people and left thousands upon thousands more homeless.

Now, two years later, Haiti is still suffering with 96 percent of the devastation still visible all over the city of Port au Prince. The unemployment rate in Haiti is over 80 percent. In such dire conditions, no one suffers more than the country’s children. Many children have been left orphans by the death of either one or both of their parents. When a single parent has no way to feed their child or provide for their needs sadly, they see no other options than giving their child up.

    In the 40-day season of self-denial called Lent, some Christians give up daily comforts such as chocolate, soda or Facebook. Attorney Kent McKeever felt called to try something a little more uncomfortable.

     

    McKeever, a youth minister and Mission Waco legal advocate, is dressing each day head to toe in orange jailhouse scrubs in solidarity with the imprisoned and returning ex-cons shunned by society.
