Mount Olive AME Church and Rev. Mae Smith invite the community to a “Soul Food” dinner-fundraiser this Sunday, to help celebrate Black History Month.
The fundraiser takes place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, located at 616 S.E. 4th Ave., in Mineral Wells. A donation of $8 is requested for the meal, which includes chicken, brisket, pig feet, neck bones, yams, collard greens, salad, beans and much more. Mt. Olive is taking plate orders now. For more information or to make a donation, call (940) 452-1899.
Church member Thomas Gilbert said the event stems from “the heritage we remember … [and] is the second year we’ve done this.”
He added that the Soul Food dinner is intended to raise funds for a new church building.
Currently, Mt. Olive parishioners worship at 8 a.m. Sundays at Hughes Chapel CME Church, located at 611 S.W. 1st Ave.
