Bible study club breaks for summer with review of Acts, chapter 9

The Christians in Jerusalem were extremely suspicious of Paul. Barnabas came forward, took Paul by the hand, and stood as sponsor for him. Paul continued his travels to Caesarea and to Tarsus. The church in Judea, Galilee and Judea enjoyed a period of peace and growth, increasing in numbers and spiritual strength.

The focus of the chapter then shifts to Peter, who was traveling in the area and preaching. He also demonstrated God’s power by healing Aeneas, a man who had been bedridden for eight years. In Joppa, Peter also raised the widow, Dorcas, from the dead. This last act caused many in the areas to believe in Jesus and become active in the Christian faith.

President Sarita Monroe conducted the business meeting. Officers for the 2013-14 year agreed to serve for the 2014-15 year. The officers are Sarita Monroe, president; Janet Holland, first vice president; Lynn Waddy, second vice president; Darleen Garrett, secretary; and Elaine Summers, treasurer. Mary Creighton serves as historian and Lynn Waddy serves as reporter.

Each member participates by hosting a meeting and leading a lesson. Prayer concerns were expressed. This was the final lesson for the 2013-14 year. Meetings will resume in September with Acts, Chapter 11.

The meeting was adjourned with the “Closing Prayer”:

Feed our souls

Bountifully with the

Bread that was broken

Keep our lives warm with

The fellowship of these

Friends we pray.

Be very near us each day

While we’re apart

And at the assigned date,

Reassemble us with a

Clean and receptive
