While I was a young woman, my professor father produced a syndicated newspaper column that enjoyed a successful run for several years. Having celebrated Father’s Day this past Sunday, I have decided to honor my Dad by reprinting one of his “Things That Matter” columns here this week:
A Seven-Minute Garden

Back in the days of trolley cars, a Baltimore motorman grew a garden on company time.
This particular trolley line ended in a loop that circled half an acre of ground littered with rubbish and covered with underbrush. The motorman had to wait there for seven minutes between every run just to keep his schedule straight.
