IRS-certified volunteers will be on hand at the Senior Center to offer free Income Tax preparation assistance beginning Thursday, Feb. 6. There is no need to call for appointments. People will be helped in the order that they sign in from 8 a.m. until noon every Thursday through April 10. Come prepared with the current year’s tax package and or label, all W-2 and 1099 forms and information for other income, information for all deductions or credits, a copy of last year’s tax return, proof of account for direct deposit of refund (e.g., voided check), Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification notices (cards for you, your spouse, and/or dependents), and proof of identification for yourself and/or your spouse.
I thought I’d give you a heads-up so you’ll have plenty of time to perfect your recipes. The Senior Center’s annual Chocolate Contest is coming up on Valentine’s Day. Plan on joining us for some Valentine festivities on Feb. 14. I’ll elaborate on the contest details in next week’s column.
It’s not too soon to mark your calendars for our annual Gigantic Garage Sale coming up in March. The event will begin with an Early Bird sale from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. Admission is $10 for the Early Bird sale, but the Garage Sale is free to the public on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15.
The Senior Center is a great place to get back to basics. We hope to see you here.
