Making Memories ...

While cleaning out my parent’s attic the other day, I ran across a box of letters I had written to them during my college years.  I took the stack of envelopes home to read through later that evening.

Most of the missives contained requests for money or the forwarding of items I needed from home.  But I found, to my delight, that there were also detailed descriptions of daily schedules and special activities or events that I had forgotten about.  The people and places of my college world came alive again as I took a literary stroll down memory lane.

The memories of good times and special places add richness to our lives.  That is why we work hard to create memorable fun at the Senior Center.  There’s plenty coming up in the next few weeks.

Following lunch tomorrow, Oct. 18, Attorney Paul Hyde will be giving a presentation on legal issues connected with Medicaid and long-term care.  He will be available to answer any elder law questions.  Anyone is welcome to join the group at 1 p.m. to hear this important information.

After lunch on Monday, Oct. 21, beginning around 12:45 p.m., Gail Haterius from the Mineral Wells ISD will share information and answer questions about the upcoming school bond issue.  Anyone is welcome to this session aimed at helping people make informed decisions in the vote coming up on Nov. 5.

Our Costume Party on Thursday, Oct. 31 will also feature a baking contest highlighting desserts made with pumpkin or apple as main ingredients.  There is no entry fee and contestants may enter as many dishes as they wish.  The desserts will be shared with all the party-goers after judges have finished scoring them.  And following a costume parade, judges will also award prizes in several dress-up categories.

Have you heard that old saying, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”? Well let me tell you, we’ve got treasure to spare!

Since early Monday morning, our volunteers have been unpacking, sorting, pricing and arranging truckloads of treasure for the annual Gigantic Garage Sale that begins tonight. Our $10-per-person Early Bird Sale will run from 5-7 this evening, but the real fun begins tomorrow morning. The sale from 9-5 on Friday, March 14, and 9-1 on Saturday, March 15, is free to the public.
