I had the most amazing experience last weekend. My parents, sister and I visited the annual Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, N.M., a giant nine-day festival featuring hot air balloon races, competitions and exhibitions.
Though on occasion I’ve caught glimpses of hot air balloons in the sky, I’ve never had the chance to see one up close, on the ground. They are so much more enormous than I realized – several stories high, in fact. And so colorful! The sight of 150 piloted balloons gently rising into the morning sky was so awesome that I was literally clapping my hands and bouncing up and down with excitement.
It’s harder to judge things accurately from a distance. That includes not only hot air balloons or spaceships, but also new experiences.
