It was no easy feat to get our family of seven packed up for a year’s furlough in the states. With two suitcases and a carry-on bag for each person, our van was filled to bursting as we pulled out of our driveway for the six-hour drive to the airport in Seoul.
Halfway there, we stopped in Taejon to pick up the friend who would drop us off at the airport and babysit our vehicle while we were gone. As he crawled into the driver’s seat, he asked which terminal we should head for.
My husband opened his backpack to check the tickets. They weren’t there. He searched pockets and luggage to no avail. Our flight tickets had simply disappeared.
In a panic we called the neighbor with whom we’d left a house key in Kwangju. She investigated and found the tickets on our dining table, right where we had laid them down.
