Our money problems will not affect the upcoming 2013 Senior Expo in any way. This annual health fair is shaping up to be a good one. Some of the free health screenings will include vision, hearing, blood pressure, blood glucose, CBC, cholesterol, PSA prostate screening, healthy neck, spine and knee evaluation, and flu shots will be available with Medicare cards ($32 without Medicare). The workshops this year will include topics on elder law, Medicare benefits and supplements, preventing falls in the home, and how to strengthen knees, hips, shoulders, etc., to prevent injury. Walmart will provide breakfast, and the Weatherford Chick-fil-A and our local Mesquite Pit are donating food for lunch.
The Senior Expo will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13. The exhibitors, workshops and health screenings will take place at First Baptist Church. The registration table will be set up at the east entrance. You may drop in for breakfast at the Senior Center any time between 8-9 a.m., and we will serve lunch there between 11:30-12:30.
The Expo is free to anyone over age 50, so come and bring your friends. It should be fun and informative.
Our Senior Center exists to enrich the lives of older adults in our area. Please let us know how we may serve you better. Money issues aside, we will continue working to create programs, activities and events to keep you mentally, physically and socially engaged for healthier, happier lives.
