Treasures Galore

Mineral Wells Index

By Vivian Conrad, Senior Center Executive Director

Have you heard that old saying, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”? Well let me tell you, we’ve got treasure to spare!

Since early Monday morning, our volunteers have been unpacking, sorting, pricing and arranging truckloads of treasure for the annual Gigantic Garage Sale that begins tonight. Our $10-per-person Early Bird Sale will run from 5-7 this evening, but the real fun begins tomorrow morning. The sale from 9-5 on Friday, March 14, and 9-1 on Saturday, March 15, is free to the public.

Friday shoppers will also be able to take advantage of a fantastic Bake Sale.  Our Senior Center participants are working overtime to produce confections and goodies that will make your mouth water.

With scores of our participants volunteering their time and energy to set up and run the sale for us, we’re grateful for the businesses and individuals who have pitched in to help us this week.  Palo Pinto Nursing & Rehab has provided snacks and drinks every day.  IntegraCare, Serenity Estates, Mineral Wells Nursing & Rehab, Holiday Hills Country Club, Renew Home Health, and Old School Pizza are taking turns furnishing a daily lunch.  Comfort Suites, Texas Best Donuts, and Wise

Regional Health System are providing breakfasts each morning.  We also appreciate the help we have received from the County Sheriff’s Office.  All of these groups and individuals have fueled the work that is going into this fundraiser.

Even though our Garage Sale will be over, there are plenty of activities going on in the coming weeks to keep us busy.  On Monday, March 17, we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Blarney Contest.  If you have a Tall Tale to tell, please sign up and come out to share your whopper.

At lunch next Thursday, March 20, we will be giving out small gifts to celebrate the First Day of Spring. Call 940-325-6470 to make your reservation for lunch.

After lunch on Friday, March 21, William Hubbert of Girling Hospice will give a short presentation on hospice care. Please join us for this informative program.

It may seem far away, but this year’s Taste of Palo Pinto County on July 14 will be upon us sooner than we think.  People in the community have already begun stepping up as sponsors of this important event.  Diamond Pharmacy and First Financial Bank have pledged top-level 5-Star sponsorships.  Titan Bank will be a 4-Star sponsor and Four Seasons Dental will sponsor at the 3-Star level.  Todd Hamilton is joining us as a 2-Star sponsor.  We are very grateful for the help from these supporters.

To give you a preview of the good food to expect at this year’s Taste of Palo Pinto County, let me thank the vendors who have already agreed to serve up some of their best dishes for that night.  We appreciate Holiday Hills Country Club, Hogg Pit BBQ, Natty Flat Smokehouse, Taste and See Bakery Treats, and Tastefully Simple for signing up so quickly.

We hope to see you at the sale on Friday and Saturday.  Thanks for supporting our fundraiser.
