One day last week, two of my grandkids were unusually quarrelsome. After enduring a morning of continual bickering, I pulled them aside for a private talk. Instead of making their mother sad on her birthday, I suggested, why not please her by being kind and loving to one another and finding ways to make her day happy?
Somewhat subdued, they approached my daughter and asked, “Mommy, if somebody gave you a birthday wish, what would you ask for?”
“I would wish for my children to play together without arguing or fussing,” Joy answered without hesitation.
Three-year-old Reagan frowned for a moment, then offered, “I think you should wish that a little girl would give you a flower.”
