Hopes and Dreams

(Continued)

Next Tuesday morning we will inaugurate the newest of our free educational courses. Patricia Luna will teach a Beginning Conversational Spanish class every Tuesday from 9-9:30. Call to let us know you’re coming, or just drop by to check it out.

There is still time to sign up for the AARP Defensive Driving Course from 9:30-3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. Space is limited, so call today to reserve your spot.

Attention, cooks of all ages! Our second annual Mother’s Favorite Recipes Baking Contest is coming up on Friday, May 21. There is a $3 entry fee for adults and $1.50 for kids under 18. Categories include Appetizers & Snacks, Breads, Cakes, Pies, and Cookies. Prizes will be awarded in every category.  Contact the senior center to register.

On Wednesday, June 12, we’ll be taking a trip to WinStar. The resort bus coming to pick us up will only hold 54 people, so call to reserve your seat if you wish to go. The $20 cost, due by June 3, includes transportation, a free breakfast buffet for seniors, and $20 of casino playing credit. We will leave from the center at 8 a.m. and arrive back in Mineral Wells around 5 p.m.

Don’t forget that we’ll be hosting city/county pet adoptions at the center from 10-3 on Saturday, May 18. There will be a multi-person garage sale going on inside that same day. Doors will open for the sale at 8 a.m.

Hopes and dreams are alive and well at Mineral Wells Senior Center. Why not join us in helping make them come true.

Have you heard that old saying, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”? Well let me tell you, we’ve got treasure to spare!

Since early Monday morning, our volunteers have been unpacking, sorting, pricing and arranging truckloads of treasure for the annual Gigantic Garage Sale that begins tonight. Our $10-per-person Early Bird Sale will run from 5-7 this evening, but the real fun begins tomorrow morning. The sale from 9-5 on Friday, March 14, and 9-1 on Saturday, March 15, is free to the public.
