Lots Going On

My parents have sold their farm and are relocating to Weatherford this Saturday. As the big moving day draws closer, packed boxes are piling up. Mom and Dad have sold truckloads of household goods and donated even more to the Senior Center for our annual Garage Sale in March. But it seems we’ve hardly made a dent in all the stuff that has accumulated over the 20-plus years they’ve lived there. I don’t know what they’re going to do with everything.

At the Senior Center we found a solution for some of our overflow. We have set up our annual seasonal rummage sale that runs through November and December. If you want some great bargains on new or gently used items that include many holiday decorations, drop by the center to shop any time during our operating hours between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Next week the holiday season will be in full swing as we celebrate with a Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Our center cooks will prepare the turkey and dressing dinner, but salads and desserts will be potluck. You don’t have to bring a dish to take part in the meal, but advance reservations are required. If you plan to attend, please call us at 940-325-6470 or stop by the reception desk to let us know you’re coming.

The Senior Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday next Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29.

Coming up on Friday, Dec. 6, we’ll host our very first in-house Variety Show. This is not a contest – just pure entertainment. If you have a talent you’d like to share, be it singing, dancing, reciting a poem, or even telling a clean joke, contact our reception desk to sign up as a performer.

Holiday celebrations will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 10, with an International Food Fair featuring holiday foods from around the world.

Have you heard that old saying, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”? Well let me tell you, we’ve got treasure to spare!

Since early Monday morning, our volunteers have been unpacking, sorting, pricing and arranging truckloads of treasure for the annual Gigantic Garage Sale that begins tonight. Our $10-per-person Early Bird Sale will run from 5-7 this evening, but the real fun begins tomorrow morning. The sale from 9-5 on Friday, March 14, and 9-1 on Saturday, March 15, is free to the public.
