Lots Going On

We need individuals or teams to decorate tables with national themes and/or provide dishes from different countries.  Please let us know if you are willing to help with foods or decorations.

Another big event in the near future is our annual Breakfast with Santa fundraiser from 8:30-11:30 on Saturday morning, Dec. 14. Not only will patrons be able to buy a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast, but they will also get to have pictures made with Santa Claus. Children will receive gifts from Santa’s bag.  Vendors will be on hand to sell handcrafts, as well. Plan now to bring the kids over for a fun morning.

We’d like to thank Emerald Lane Salon owner Misty Taylor for sharing one of her hairdressers with us. Becky Turner is at the center from 9-12 noon the first Wednesday of every month to give free haircuts to seniors. We are grateful to them both for this wonderful service. If you are over the age of 50 and need a trim, contact the reception desk to schedule an appointment for Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Sandra Reed, the elder law attorney who led a workshop for our Senior Expo in September, will be visiting the Senior Center at lunch on Friday, Dec. 13. After a short presentation beginning at 12:45, she will be on hand to share information and answer questions about legal issues crucial to older adults. Anyone is welcome to come sit in on this session.

In this busy time of year, our center schedule is not so hectic that we forget those people who give so much of their time, energy and resources to help us. We are grateful to Misty Stekoll of Bethany HomeHealth Services for sponsoring the food and decorations for our dances on the second Friday of every month; to Ruby Kling of Abbi Home Care for sponsoring our weekly Wii Bowling League and providing the cake for monthly birthday parties; to Waddy Best Value Pharmacy for sponsoring birthday meals, popcorn and ice cream for our monthly birthday parties; and to Renew Home Health for being title sponsor of this year’s Senior Expo and conducting third Thursday health checks each month, to name a few. Their support is a great blessing to all of us at the Senior Center.

Let us be part of your holiday memories this year.  Come see us at the center. ••

  • Ordinary heroes

It seems kind of funny to me that our society celebrates the abilities of some people while ignoring those of others.

  • FEB BD.jpg Treasures Galore

Have you heard that old saying, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”? Well let me tell you, we’ve got treasure to spare!

Since early Monday morning, our volunteers have been unpacking, sorting, pricing and arranging truckloads of treasure for the annual Gigantic Garage Sale that begins tonight. Our $10-per-person Early Bird Sale will run from 5-7 this evening, but the real fun begins tomorrow morning. The sale from 9-5 on Friday, March 14, and 9-1 on Saturday, March 15, is free to the public.
