The Mineral Wells Junior High Rams played Azle Junior High on Monday, Oct. 23.
The seventh grade B-team lost by a final of 38-0.
B-team running back Luke Runyan ran the ball hard throughout the game, said coach Taylor Tomlin, while Daniel Padron was the B-team Rams' defensive standout against Azle.
The seventh grade A-team also fell to Azle, by a final score of 38-6.
Despite the score, the seventh grade A-team offense moved the ball well, Tomlin said.
On offense, Rams running backs Brayden Hinojos and Kequan Cyphers had a number of big gains, and the Rams were able to find the end zone on a touchdown pass by Mason Facteau to Cade Boyd.
Eighth Grade Rams
The MWJH eighth grade Rams also lost a pair of tough games to the Hornets.
The eighth grade B-team was shutout by an undefeated Azle squad, 14-0.
“The group fought until the end,” Coach Tomlin said.
Eighth grade B-team defensive standouts included Ashton Chandler, Ryan Carter, Preston Waldrum and Evan Guzman.
Offensive standouts for the B-team Rams were Chris Rodriquez, Micah Gray, Nathan Peterson and Marshaun Hopper.
In the Rams' closest battle of the night, the eighth grade A-team fell by a score of 24-14.
Eighth grade A-team defensive standouts were Rams Brazos Glover, who recovered an Azle fumble, Landon Russell and Bernardo Gomez.
Offensive standouts for the eighth grade A-team Rams included Isaiah Santibanez, Tyson Reeves and Robbe Gillen.
Rams A-team quarterback Tristan Gray also had a great night, both running and throwing the ball, said Tomlin, who noted that the play of the night came on a Gray 60-yard TD pass when he connected with wide receiver Christian Robinson.
“Robinson ripped the ball out of the defender's hands and raced down the sideline for the score,” Tomlin said. “Overall, I thought our teams played hard. We finish the season with Castleberry and have to find a way to win four games next Tuesday night.”
