In a shutout win on Friday, 62-0, over the Cherokee Indians, senior defensive back Zavion Winegart had a team-high three takeaways with a fumble recovery and two interceptions.

The Mineral Wells Index Area Player of the Week for week eight of the 2017 football season is Strawn High School senior defensive back Zavion Winegart!

At 7-0 this season, the Strawn Greyhounds have given opposing teams more than they can handle each and every week this season.

That was no different on Friday night, as the Greyhounds crushed the Cherokee Indians 62-0.

In the victory, four different Greyhounds scored touchdowns on the offensive end, but it was the defense that stood out the most with great plays throughout the game, including five defensive takeaways on four interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Among Greyhound defenders with a defensive takeaway in the win were juniors Carlos Villanueva and Jr. Cervantes, each with an INT, while junior linebacker Ivan Ruiz came away with a forced fumble.

And leading the way for the defense, Strawn senior defensive back Zavion Winegart had a team-high three takeways in the Cherokee win!

In the first quarter on Friday, Winegart hauled in an INT to spoil the Indians’ first drive of the game.

Then, the senior scooped up a Cherokee fumble after a big hit by Ivan Ruiz and later in the game hauled in a second INT to keep the Indians off the scoreboard.

For leading a dominant Greyhounds defensive unit to their seventh win against zero losses this season, Strawn senior defensive back Zavion Winegart is the Mineral Wells Index Area Player of the Week!
