Santo running back Jett Bryan carries for positive yards. Bryan had 21 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats' 35-6 district win over Era on Friday night.

ERA – After a tough loss to open district play, the Santo Wildcats have pounced on their last two opponents for a pair of district wins by a combined count of 99-6.

On Friday, the Era Hornets fell prey to a well-oiled Santo offense and suffocating defense in a 35-6 win for the Cats. The victory improved their record to 5-3 and 2-1 in district while the Hornets dropped to 3-5 and 1-2 in the 8-2A standings.

The Wildcats defense held the Hornets to 110 yards of total offense and just five yards through the air. The only Era touchdown came late in the second quarter on a short three yard carry.

In the meantime, sophomore Austin O'Hair led the way with six tackles, 1.5 for loss. Juniors Bennett Motley had 5.5 tackles, one for a loss while Jose Yanez had five tackles and a team-high two for loss.

Elsewhere, senior Destin Montelongo forced the only Era turnover on an interception to go with four tackles in the win. Sophomores Landon Fallin had 2.5 tackles, 1.5 for loss, while Grant Nemeth totaled 2.5 tackles, .5 for loss and Brady McPherson finished with a pair of tackles.

On offense, the Wildcats scored at least once in every quarter.

Nemeth got things started with a two-yard run in the first followed by a Fabian Valenzuela PAT. Nemeth finished with 70 yards on six carries and a touchdown.

Then, Jett Bryan found the end zone from five yards out in the second. A blocked extra point kept the score at 13-0, but the sophomore Bryan later barreled in from a yard out for his second touchdown of the quarter. Senior Reagan Holland carried the ball for a successful two-point conversion.

After the only Era score of the game, the Wildcats took a 21-6 lead into half. Bryan totaled 21 carries for a team-high 128 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He was also 2 for 4 passing for 24 yards.

In the third, the senior Holland stayed busy with a 10-yard scamper for the Cats' fourth touchdown of the night to make it 28-6 after another Valenzuela point after. Holland had eight total carries for 39 yards.

In the fourth, the Wildcats put the game out of reach on a 25-yard run by Montelongo. Valenzuela's third extra point brought the final count to 35-6 while Montelongo ended up with 65 yards on nine carries and one score.
