“Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”
How often have we heard these words used in a joke? Several years ago it was the script for a TV commercial, featuring an old lady lying on the floor at the foot of the stairs, with great pain on her face. More recently, it has again been featured in a more humorous context, but still as an advertisement. I don’t remember the product being “touted” by this masterpiece of visual merchandising, but my point at this moment is the term “fallen and can’t get up!” It perfectly typifies the two strongest influences on the human body – age and gravity. It’s a law of nature, placing us at the mercy of both, and I am not sure how merciful this law can be.
