We have but one more move to make

I suppose it to be a natural thing that when folks get my age we begin to anticipate our final destination and we turn our thoughts to the road behind us.

Maybe we just want to remember or, perhaps, we hope to see if the path behind looks as pleasant and satisfying as the road ahead seems. Did you ever have the feeling that what happened a long time ago may be happening again … in much the same way?

This past week, I was sitting out on the front porch looking out over the pond and I thought, “This is possibly our last home, right here,” which led me to remember our first home, nearly 67 years ago. Our idea of a “home” may have been formed, to some extent, by William Cowper’s statement, in the early 1800s in “The Task,” that “God made the country and man made the town.” Maybe it was part of our upbringing as young ’uns in New Mexico and farm living.
